This month's topic:

Microsoft's handgun The Microsoft Handgun

If Microsoft designed handguns you can bet they would be user-configurable.  They would also be so clumsy and and coplicated they would kill the user after 20 seconds.  Be thankful the gang in Redmond sticks to less lethal  products.

Printer Instructions:   The page will always fill your browser window. This is because the page is built from tables that are defined as a percentage of the window as opposed to a fixed number of pixels.  This requires more computation on the part of the browser but with a simple static page the slowdown is not too bad.  Having the page fill the browser window is beneficial and a secondary benefit is that most browsers use the window concept as an equivalent to a printed page.  This gives some control over the web page's relation to the printed page.  By defining a web page with 20 tables that are defined as 100% of the width and height of the window the printer will print out 20 pages.  Similarly, several tables can be used as is done to the above page as long as some integral number of tables are defined with percentages that add to 100% in both dimensions.

For Opera: Open "Files/Print options...".  Check "Print page background" if desired.  Uncheck "Print headers and footers" as well as "Fit to paper width".  Set margins to 0.5. Click on "Paper and orientation" and set the orientation to "Landscape".  Open "Files/Print".  Set print range from 1 to 1 in order to suppress the printing of this instruction box.  Open "Files/Print Preview" to see what the page will look like.

For Explorer: Open "Files/Page Setup".  Clear contents of header and footer box.  Set margins to 0.3.    You can open "Files/Print Preview to see what page will look like.  Open "Files/Print" and set range from 1 to 1 in order to suppress the printing of this instruction box.  Explorer will convert all colored backgrounds to white and all text to black.

Notes:  This page is created for display on a 24 inch 1920x1200 monitor. If you have the means I highly recommend picking one up. The page is optimized for the Opera web browser.
