I have been watching the price of the Sony RX100 VII (aka Model 7, M7) for four years. It was to replace my Konica/Minolta Dimage X50. I loved that camera since it fit in my pocket. It has a prism that folds the optical path, so no lens has to extend when you turn it on. What I really loved is the whole front cover served as an on/off switch. I kept buying used X50s on eBay as mine broke or got broken. The X50 is a 2012 camera. It shows with the tiny sensor, and dying batteries.
I got one Sony RX100 VII from Best Buy. I was so delighted, I bought a second one, since they are getting hard to find. Now I was faced with the terrifying prospect of disposing of the old X50 cameras. I had four of them, in varying states of worn-out and broken. Sure I could put them all on eBay for twenty bucks. But as I get older, scraping a few dollars out just so I don't feel bad throwing something away is passé. Above is what I had lined up for the garbage. I kept the SD cards.
I still have a large cabinet in the lab to clear out. It has odd-ball stuff. There is shrink-wrap for electronics, and taken-apart things I did tear-downs on for EDN and Electronic Design magazines. All that will hit the trash.
I have a buddy that is getting into minimal living with less and less stuff. I don't think I will ever get to his level, but it is nice to get a little closer. He advises that if I have not used it in a year, to toss it. Heck, I hardly used this lab in three years. But it was great to organize it, get it neat, and remind myself what I own. Still a few days' work left, but so far so good.
